Divorce - Book Review

Divorce (in the Bible) by Michael S. Sayen
Christian Book, 2016, 70 Pages
Find it on Amazon.ca, Goodreads
This is a book about Divorce. More importantly, this is a book about what the Bible says about divorce and what constitutes adultery. This is a commentary on 1 Cor. 7: 1-40 and all the scriptures leading up to Paul's writing. This book was designed to combat divorce among Christians in an ever increasing divorce society.
Love you guys, Michael (Goodreads)

Is marriage a contract or a covenant?  Is divorce a sin?  Are there biblical reasons to divorce?  Is it an adultery to marry a divorced person?  Do Christians know the scriptures about divorce and remarriage? Can we separate what God had joined?
Divorce (in the Bible) answered all these questions.  Michael S. Sayen thoroughly examined the Bible and scholars’ commentaries.  He displayed exhaustive notes and references to support his opinion.  The author warned Christians against divorce/remarriage for the wrong reasons.  He didn’t want them to sin against God.  He desired that they understand God’s vision of marriage.  And trust God to fix their struggling union.
The book’s title grabbed my attention because several preachers avoid this topic.  I also noticed that Michael Sayen challenged some wrong interpretations of the Bible. Overall his thesis held together and covered all angles. But too many direct quotations could make the arguments difficult to understand.  I couldn’t decipher the Greek alphabet quoted in some commentaries, too. Most definitions weren’t included in the chapters but in the notes at the end of the book.
Anyway, this book is very inspiring because it is grounded in the word of God.  The message is honest and very helpful to the body of Christ.  I wasn’t challenged in my faith because I totally agree with his work.  M. Sayen encourages believers to seriously study the Bible. And to obey God’s word.  The font of the text was good and easy to read.  The book is accessible in paper or electronic version.  I will recommend this book.  I'm giving Books’ title 4 stars out of 5, and the content 8 stars out of 10.
